About Our Materials:

Anna uses Sterling silver, 14K gold-filled, and in some cases Vermeil (gold plating over silver), and semiprecious gemstones in all of her uniquely crafted pieces. Some of her one-of-a-kind pieces also feature beautiful Pave diamonds. Our gemstones come from all over the world, and Anna works with two suppliers to have her gemstones custom cut, ensuring the best quality and balanced positive energy. We are sold in over 400 stores in this country, and over the last 15 years been creating jewelry that is safe and as allergy clear as possible. We work with reputable US companies for our chains, wire, clasps and ear wires, and feel confident at what we are offering to you. All of our jewelry is handmade with love in the heart of Historic Norcross, GA.

Will Sterling silver tarnish over time?

Yes, if left out in the open or not properly cared for. Tarnishing is a natural chemical reaction that occurs between many elemental metals and oxygen in the air and water. The best way to make sure your silver stays shiny and new is to store your jewelry away from air and moisture, such as in a Ziploc bag, jewelry box, or in the Anna Balkan box your piece arrives in. Scroll down and take a look at our 5 S’s to avoid to keep your jewelry looking beautiful!

If you notice any darkening of your Sterling piece(s), simply polish with a jewelry polishing cloth, brush with a toothbrush and toothpaste (use simple white one or one with baking soda, gel will not work), or gently wash with soap and water and rinse/dry thoroughly afterwards. In cases of heavy tarnishing, you can drop off your Anna Balkan piece at our Gallery, and we can use our liquid jewelry cleaner to clean your piece. If for some reason your Anna Balkan piece is has been left out and is too tarnished to clean, we are happy to oxidize your piece for no charge, which will give it a beautiful antique finish (see our Popart collection for examples).

Please do your best to rinse your jewelry with warm water and hair dry it during warm/hot days on a weekly basis, as our skin produces oils and lotions we used will eat into your chains and cause your pieces to break or tarnish. If you are showing with your jewelry on, please take a few min after the shower to remove the necklace and rinse it directly under water to remove any soap particles and use hairdryer to dry it, otherwise these particles will eat through your metals and seep into gems.

What does 14K gold-filled mean?

14K gold-filled materials provide the rich, warm-toned look and feel of solid gold, but for a fraction of the price. Our 14K gold-filled chains, wire, and elements are made by permanently bonding a thick layer of pure 14K gold onto an underlying base consisting of a Sterling silver and 14K gold mix, ensuring there is 5% pure gold bonded to all the wires and chains. Gold-filled does not mean the same thing as gold-plated (gold over metal, typically brass or jewelers metal) or vermeil (2-4 microns of gold over sterling silver).  With proper care, our 14K gold-filled materials will never tarnish, peel, or rub off. Because Sterling silver is a component of our gold-filled materials, you may notice slight darkening in the “joints” of elements or between wire wrap-work. Simply rub any darkened areas between your fingers under warm water and mild soap, or gently scrub with a toothbrush and toothpaste to restore shine.

Will my piece look exactly like the picture I see on the website?

All of our pieces are handmade to order. Please note that semiprecious gemstones and pearls may look slightly different online than they appear in person due to differences in lighting during photography, the unique faceting of our gemstones, and differences in color resolution on computer and phone screens. If this is a concern for you, please call our Norcross Gallery at 678-527-1180 and one of our trained stylists can provide pictures and/or videos of the piece(s) you are interested in, as well as model any of our pieces for you. And we will be happy to offer set pairing suggestions.

How much does it cost to have my item(s) shipped to me, and how long will it take for my item(s) to arrive?

We are able to ship our jewelry anywhere in the United States, and the standard cost for shipping our pieces is $6. Items are generally shipped within 1-3 business days after you place your order. We ship all pieces Priority Mail USPS from Norcross, GA, and pieces usually arrive 2-5 days after shipment. If you request it at check out in comments section, when your item(s) ship, you can receive a delivery confirmation number via email. Occasionally, it may take a little longer than normal for your item(s) to arrive for various reasons. If there is any delay in the production or shipment of your order, we will contact you immediately and let you know.

If you need your item(s) ASAP, please email us at sales@annabalkan.com to discuss rush shipping options, as pricing will vary depending on how quickly you need your items and how many items you order. We ship internationally and pricing will be calculated at checkout and is based on your address.

Can I order on the website and pick up my item(s) in store?

Yes! We are happy to offer in-store pickup. Plus, you’ll get the added bonus of experiencing the magic of our Gallery in person. We offer free color/complexion analysis, and our stylists can guide you in the right direction when it comes to colors, metal finishes, and styles that are perfect for you. Feel free to stay awhile and let us give you the grand tour of our Gallery! It’s truly an experience like no other.

If my item is a gift, do you gift wrap? Can I include a message for the gift recipient? 

Yes! All items ordered arrive on a soft cotton pad in our classic red and brown Anna Balkan gift boxes and/or pouches, complete with a ribbon and cards detailing jewelry care, our designer Anna’s story, and our social media/website information. If you would like a personal message included with your gift, please write it in the comments section at check out and we will include a complementary card with your handwritten message.

What are the policies for returns and exchanges? 

We want you to absolutely love your pieces, wear them often and tell your friends about us. We love what we do, and as a small Handmade to Order in USA business, we do our best to send you the most perfect quality and even double check at times if we feel there is an error in the order or feel we should offer a clarification. We are easily reached via phone and email, and are truly easy to work with, discuss options and answer questions before you place your order or after. With that in mind, please understand and recognize that we do not have a large production staff and unlimited supplies to easily absorb the impacts, therefore we offer refunds upon approval on your orders (please contact us for your Return Authorization information).

In our retail Norcross Gallery, we offer 30 day exchanges on unworn in original packaging pieces. If you order on-line, and would like to exchange your item, please notify us via email within 7 days of receipt and product returned for exchange within 7 days from approval of the exchange. How do I care for my Anna Balkan jewelry? 

Here at Anna Balkan, we have a fun mnemonic to help you remember how to best care for your jewelry. Always avoid the 5 S’s, and your beautiful handmade pieces should last a lifetime. What are the 5 S’s?

Sleep. As a cardinal rule, you should never sleep in any of your jewelry. You can accidentally rip off your jewelry in your sleep, it can get caught in your hair, or you can crush or bend the jewelry. Whenever you sleep, let your Anna Balkan piece sleep in its little box too!

Shower. Even if they are all-natural, shower gels, shampoos, and soaps contain chemicals that can compromise the integrity of Sterling silver and 14K gold filled materials, as well as softer materials such as pearls. Please be sure to remove all jewelry before showering!

Scents. Perfumes, lotions, oils, hairsprays, and other “scents” can degrade your jewelry and cause disintegration of metals and elements. Keep your jewelry away when you are spraying perfume, hairspray, sunscreen, etc. and try not to wear your jewelry when you have any of these on. It’s always a good idea to wash your jewelry gently with soap and water and dry thoroughly afterwards if any perfumes, lotions, or other cosmetics get on your Anna Balkan jewelry.

Sweat. Going to the gym or sweating excessively in your jewelry is a big no-no! Exercising in your jewelry can put unnecessary stress and wear on the piece, and the salt in your sweat will react with metals to cause oxidation. If you do get too hot when you’re out and about, clean your jewelry with soap and water when you get home.

Swim. Swimming pools and hot tubs contain chemicals that can cause serious wear and tear on your jewelry. Even natural bodies of water like lakes and rivers contain ions that speed up tarnishing. Play it safe if you’re going to play in the water, and leave your Anna Balkan jewelry at home.

What happens if my jewelry breaks? 

If your Anna Balkan piece breaks for any reason, email to us first at sales@annabalkan.com so we can provide better guidance and set expectations. After we communicated, you can ship it to us for repair at our Gallery:

Depending on how old your piece is, if any gemstones or elements are missing, or if the piece has been slept/showered/swam in (yes, we can tell), there may be a small fee to repair your piece or replace missing elements. If there are any charges to repair your jewelry, one of our associates will reach out to you prior to repairing your piece to get your OK on the cost. We are here to help you – our designer Anna is very fair in her evaluation of damage to her pieces, and only charges for repairs when absolutely necessary. In some cases, if an earring is lost and we cannot offer a matching one, we can always turn your earring into a necklace at a very low cost.

Please note that there will be a charge to repair any Anna Balkan jewelry purchased at festivals, art shows, or our annual Sample Sale. Pieces purchased at these events are often offered highly discounted and cost of repairs will be discussed prior to repair. Again, we do our best to minimize any additional cost to you and offer repair materials at low cost.

Anna only works with her own gems and materials, so unfortunately we are not able to offer repair services for jewelry that was not designed by Anna. If you purchased a piece by another designer in our Gallery and you need a repair, please contact us, and we will be able to work with that designer directly to get your piece repaired.

Will you donate a piece or a gift certificate to our raffle/auction?

Here at Anna Balkan, we love to give back to our community and support varies causes whenever we are able. Please email us at sales@annabalkan.com to inquire about donations. Please note that we only offer limited amount of gift certificates and do not offer products.

Do you do any custom work or accept custom orders?
Our designer Anna can work with you on your customization request. Typical requests include: metal finish changes, gemstone substitution, length change, etc. Please note that we do not offer an option of duplication of pieces from other jewelry designers, as we do not feel it is right to copy others work. With over 500 of our own designs to choose from, we are positive we can help you find that perfect piece just perfect for you.

If I see a chain or a pendant I like, can I buy it separately?

Anna Balkan necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings are sold as complete pieces, and I would depend on what you are looking at, as some pieces can be removed and separated (such as pendant may slide off the chain). However, depending on the style of the piece, we may be able to customize a chain or pendant style for you. Just give us or call or send us an email, and ask! We are happy to help you find the perfect piece.

Could I ask to change earring wires?

All of our earrings arrive with stoppers to prevent the loss, and many of our earrings can easily convert into a clip on or placed on more secure lever-back option, or added to a post style. In some cases, lever-back option does not slide easily into your ear or changes the length of the earring. It is always safe to check in with us first for your specific preference.
